What is workforce development?
Workforce development is the holistic enhancement of your employee’s overall needs. It can be focused on several areas like career development, mental development, economic development and so on. The development can come in several ways, one of which includes training and learning programs that would enhance the lives of workers.
What is the essence of the development of your workforce?
Perhaps, the most important essence of workforce development is that it increases the productivity of members of staff. It also builds loyalty between the staff and the company. It enhances the mental functionality of your members of staff and this, in the long run, favours your business. For so many staff who usually end up resigning, a sizable number mostly claim that they didn’t really feel the company was as committed to their growth as they were to the company and so they had to move on.
How to align the goals of your workers with that of yours?
1. Have one-on- one check-ins
Having one on one check-ins with members of staff doesn’t make you less professional. In fact, contrary to past opinions, being a less approachable boss does not improve the hard work and productivity of members of staff. Beyond anything else, we must realize that workers are humans first and so, they have personal things which they may be going through that does not even relate to work. As employers, we should not always make our check-ins only centred on work-related issues. From time to time, it’s right if we ask about other things.
2. Communicate the vision of the company and its benefit to them
Do not just assume that your staff understands the vision of the company. They may know it, the question is, do they understand it? In enlightening them about it, make sure they understand how achieving this “vision” benefits them moving forward. A company is only as strong as the people that built it, a vision is only as valid as the number of people that believe in it.
3. Have a brilliant Hr. team
The HR department plays a very crucial part in the running of your business as they help advance the functionality of your business. They are also useful in the coordination of new and old employees. To sum it all up, they are specialists in strategic management of workforce projections. Imagine them to be the diesel that fuels the car for it to take you to your destination.
4. Make available provisions to foster their wellbeing in the place of work.
Acknowledging the overall happiness of members of staff is the right thing to do. Now, I know as a business owner you might wonder how else to make provisions even after paying their salaries in time. You can do this by implementing ideas that will make them happier and less stressed out. As you read this, you are probably scared or wondering why you have to give something else, order than salaries.
Don’t fret! There are a thousand other things you can do that will not necessarily mean more cost for you. You can organize a recognition and praise culture in your organization. You can organize a special package where members of staff have access to the company’s car or a free session with a therapist. You can also encourage employees to develop friendships and make the strategy sessions more interactive, fun and playful.
5). Allow team members to set their own goals too
Allow team members to set their goals, this helps them to be more accountable and productive. Tracking their goals will help them stay motivated especially when they see progress. It is also important to emphasise that not all goals can be met and so some goals can be set high on purpose. You can help them understand how to define an achievable goal.
In conclusion, the advancement of a workforce means the advancement of the company itself. It is important to note that for any workforce to experience astronomical development, there should be implementations that are focused on advancing the personal development and goals of members of the team. The most important way to align your goals and vision for your company with that of your workers is to support them.
